Southampton

Yet another dreary Sunday and I couldn’t face taking the kids to another indoor play place- my head could not handle the noise! So we thought we would brave the drizzle, grab our rain coats and get some fresh air! My husband always likes being spontaneous and surprising us with new locations. When we turned up at a small town called Hythe in the New Forest, I was like really? This is pretty but its cold and wet… BUT we came across the cutest little train that takes you across the pier where you can hop on a boat to Southampton old town.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Winchester, about 20 minutes away and have never discovered this! When we got to the Old Town in Southampton, we stumbled across the most quirky little brewery called The Dancing Man.

This place was like stepping into a Tardis but a quirky one full of character. They even host weddings 🙂 So we stopped for a drink, then decided to walk the old wall.

I’m ashamed to say I have yet again never done! Despite the rain, the girls really got into our pirate game (we didn’t manage to find any treasure though- next time!) and I managed to take a few photos to capture the afternoon. Who knew Southampton had such traditional charming parts to such an industrial city!

Double bonus is, at the end of the wall awaited West Quay shopping centre. Not that I can even attempt to look around shops with the kids- those days are on hold! But the amazing choice of restaurants were a nice surprise 🙂

After a yummy early dinner, we headed back to our boat, which was beautiful seeing the dazzling lights of the city fading into the background, it had almost a Sydney harbour vibe (albeit no where near as amazing!), but it did remind me of our little travelling adventure across Australia, just for a split second!
