GLENCOE ELOPEMENT GUIDE
Glencoe is an incredible place to elope to & what makes it so special is you can choose anywhere outside as it’s legal in Scotland. With dramatic scenery, mountains and woodlands there is so much choice. I’ve put together a little guide with some of my favourite spots in Glencoe.
WHY ELOPE
Does the thought of a big wedding feel overwhelming?
You only have one wedding day and imagine spending your day completely focused on doing something you both love, maybe that involves hiking, or being surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Do you want your wedding day to be intimate? Eloping is the perfect choice if you’re wanting to really be in the moment. It’s your special day and deserves to be intimate.
WHAT AN ELOPEMENT TIMELINE CAN LOOK LIKE
Elopements aren’t a photoshoot, you deserve way more out of your wedding day and have your whole story told from start to finish. Your experience of getting married is still a full day, just like a wedding day. Your activities might be different but it’s more than taking pictures of just your vows and some portraits after. It’s a chance to capture the essence of what you really love doing as a couple. What would your perfect day look like? If you’re having a late afternoon ceremony, then how would you spend your morning? There’s so much to capturing your full story like the getting ready, first look, ceremony, portraits, evening dinner.
HERE’S AN EXAMPLE TIMELINE…
10am: GETTING READY IN A LOG CABIN. Document you both in a relaxed way.
12/ 1pm: LUNCH. A lovely cosy lunch at the Kings House Hotel.
2pm: Travel to ceremony
2:30/3pm: Go to your location Ralston Cairn (15 minute walk)
3:30pm: Photos at Ralston Cairn
4pm: Drive to Glen Etive for a relaxed walk and have some beautiful photos taken by the mountain and river. Stop off and see the deer.
6:pm: Sunset picnic, or find a cosy restaurant.
LOCATIONS
RALSTON CAIRN
A beautiful spot overlooking the Three Sisters. Easily accessible from the carpark and about a 10-15 minute walk up. My favourite spot to say your vows.
GLEN ETIVE
A stunning backdrop just off the road with Glen Etive in the background. Great location to stop off at on the way to Glen Etive Skyfall drive.
SIGNAL ROCK
Another great spot to say your vows as it’s easily accessible and has a lovely woodland.
GLEN ETIVE DRIVE
My favourite drive in Glencoe and well worth it. About an hours drive to the end but has the most beautiful Scottish scenery. Think mountains, deers, lochs and woodland.
THE WHITE HOUSE
I love taking couples here for a little walk. Parking is off road and close by. There’s a beautiful backdrop of mountains in the background. Not to mention the famous wee house.
GLENCOE SKI LIFT
About a 20 minute journey up to the top of the mountain, but the views are incredible all over the Glencoe valley.
THE LEGAL SIDE
You can get married anywhere in Glencoe as long as you have given notice to the registrar and have a humanist, you can find a list of Scottish humanists here. If you are travelling from overseas you can find more information on getting married in the UK here.

TRAVEL
Car hire is essential as it can take a while to get to each location. Glencoe is only a 2 hours drive from Glasgow and 2.5 from Edinburgh making it easy to get to if you’re flying in or travelling from the cities.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO ELOPE
Glencoe brings all year round beauty. The winter months can be dusted in snow and very cold, but Glencoe turns into a beautiful winter wonderland and very quiet. Spring through to the summer months can become lush and green, but be prepared for some crowds. The autumn is covered in a beautiful autumnal colour, the light is nice and low and it’s less busy than the summer months.
